San Luis Obispo, CA — September 10, 2025 — The San Luis Obispo County Office of Education (SLOCOE) is proud to announce that 32 schools across San Luis Obispo County have earned recognition from California PBIS for their outstanding implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This milestone highlights the county’s commitment to creating supportive, inclusive, and effective learning environments for all students through the California Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI).

PBIS is a research-based framework designed to foster positive behaviors, promote equity, and strengthen student engagement through proactive teaching and clear expectations. The statewide recognition celebrates schools that have demonstrated measurable success in building safe, respectful, and thriving school climates.

This recognition directly supports SLO County’s CYBHI-related mission of capacity building in schools by equipping educators with tools to nurture safe, supportive, and inclusive learning communities. Through PBIS, San Luis Obispo County schools are paving the way for improved academic, social, and emotional outcomes that extend far beyond the classroom.

“Recognition from the California PBIS is more than an award; it’s a reflection of the dedication our schools have to ensuring every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed,” remarks Melanie Crawford, Director of Continuous Improvement and Support and CYBHI Lead for the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education. “This work represents the best of what’s possible when educators, families, and communities come together for our students.”
